The duration of recovery implant surgery varied depending on the individual, but generally, it took about 2 to 3 weeks for the gum and 3 to 6 months for the bone. In terms of pain and discomfort, most of symptoms subsibes after 2 weeks. The basic process involved first placing the implant
, then waiting for it to integrate well with the bone. For patients with weaker bone, this step could take longer. If bone grafting was necessary, the healing period could be extended even further.
There was also a method called immediate loading implants, where the implant and prosthesis were placed on the same day. However, this approach was only possible if the jawbone was strong enough. Additionally, the success of the procedure could depend on the patient's oral hygiene and lifestyle habits, requiring a cautious approach. If the patient had conditions like diabetes or osteoporosis, the implant treatment period could be prolonged.
Implants are a semi-permanent treatment option, but problems can arise if they’re not properly maintained. In particular, if inflammation like peri-implantitis develops around the implant, removal may eventually be necessary. That’s why it’s important to visit the dentist regularly for checkups.
After getting implants, it’s also essential to be mindful of oral hygiene. While implants don’t get cavities like natural teeth, gum inflammation can still occur. Using specialized toothbrushes or interdental brushes is recommended for proper care.
It’s also best to avoid very hard foods and stick to a diet based on foods recommended by your dentist. For those who grind their teeth at night, wearing a night guard can help reduce stress on the implant.
Lastly, although implants can be expensive, choosing based solely on low cost can be risky. It’s important to communicate thoroughly with your dentist about your individual oral condition before making a decision. Maintaining healthy implants over the long term depends on proper aftercare and regular checkups.
